Counselling during Pregnancy & Postnatally (Edinburgh & Online)
Pregnancy and the postpartum period bring immense emotional, physical, and identity shifts. While this can be a time of joy, it can also bring unexpected challenges. With nearly twenty years of experience supporting people throughout the perinatal period, I offer expertise and a compassionate space for all parents to explore your feelings, process your experiences, and find the support you need.
Emotional & Mental Well-Being
I can help you navigate:
Anxiety & Depression – Whether during pregnancy or postnatal, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or low, we can work together to put in place support and strategies to help you cope.
Birth Trauma – Around 1 in 3 women experience some element of birth as traumatic. If you’ve had a difficult, unexpected or traumatic birth experience, I can help you process and heal from it.
Prepare for birth after a previous traumatic birth experience so you can approach the birth of your baby feeling less anxious and more prepared.
Intrusive Thoughts – Many new parents experience distressing thoughts. Together, we can explore ways to manage and ease them.
Process pregnancy after loss or infertility and manage the emotions that come with it.
Adjusting to Identity & Life Changes
Becoming a parent is a major transition. I can support you with:
Loss of Independence – It can be a shock to lose your sense of independence and choice. We can explore ways to balance your needs with your new role as a parent.
Relationship Changes – Maybe your relationship with your partner, parents, friends or other children has been impacted by being pregnant or growing your family. Maybe you are a single parent, either by choice or circumstance. I can help you navigate shifts in communication, intimacy, and expectations.
Work & Career Transitions – If you’re struggling with returning to work or redefining your career path, I can help you find clarity and confidence.
Postpartum Support & Adjustment
The early weeks, months and years of parenthood can feel overwhelming. I can support you in:
Managing stress, exhaustion, and overwhelm while adjusting to life with a newborn.
Navigating bonding and attachment challenges if connecting with your baby feels difficult.
Letting go of perfectionism and unrealistic expectations, helping you build confidence as a parent.
Maternal Rage – The emotional load of motherhood, sleep deprivation, and unmet needs can lead to intense anger or frustration. I provide a safe space to explore these feelings without shame, helping you understand triggers and develop strategies to regulate emotions.
Support for Baby Loss, Miscarriage & Termination
Experiencing the loss of a baby at any stage of pregnancy can be deeply painful and isolating. Whether you have gone through a miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, or have made the difficult decision to end a pregnancy, I provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where you can:
Process feelings of grief, sadness, anger, or guilt in a way that feels right for you.
Explore how loss has affected your relationships and sense of identity.
Find ways to honour your experience and move forward at your own pace.
Receive support in subsequent pregnancies and navigate any fears or anxieties that arise.

“I have benefitted enormously from the support that Louise provided... The sessions have helped hugely to allow me to adapt to the challenges of parenthood and to work through a lot of the personal changes that arise when you have a baby. I would absolutely recommend them and encourage everyone in this situation to reach out for support sooner rather than later.”
